The 3,000,000 phone numbers in the city 833 area code will be separated generally down the middle, with 736,000 in Brooklyn, 127,000 on Staten Island, and 854,000 in Queens relegated to the new code.

 

Mr. Herndon said that the 718 code was allocated to the city years prior by the North American Dialing Plan. This gathering directs region codes in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
